Situation:
Sal Chemical’s Quality and Regulatory Compliance Manager, Jason Mattern, sought an expert
who could provide an “OSHA Style” walkthrough at his facility to identify potential industrial hygiene and safety hazards. WVMEP
fit the bill by conducting an initial health and safety consultation at Sal Chemical.
Solution:
The West Virginia Manufacturing
Extension Partnership conducted an initial health and safety consultation at Sal Chemical. WVMEP used it industrial hygiene
and safety background to provide a comprehensive report of findings.
WVMEP has provided on-going safety and health assistance
to Sal Chemical at their request in an effort to assist them with special projects and/or jobs that exceed the capacity of their staff. The IHSC report of findings allowed Sal Chemicals to identify and prioritize potential hazards recognized during the walkthrough. The project led to an improved safety and health program due to the elimination of hazards and awareness gained as a result of the
project. The company feels the project enhanced their current safety program and even led to a safer work environment. Based upon these results, Sal Chemical plans to continue to use the services of WVMEP in the future.
Results:
ü Technical
assistance with identifying and eliminating safety hazards
ü Assisted the client with meeting and exceeding mandated OSHA regulations
ü Provided safety training matrix based on the walkthrough
ü Employee impact is estimated at $850,000
